– General Questions:
- Does this site save my information? Is it private?
No, the Veses Calculator is not set up to save any information. It calculates dates based on information you enter, but does not store information anywhere. - Are you SURE it's accurate? You're taking the responsibility that we're keeping the mitzva properly!
I've done my best, checking dates against printed calendars. However, some people may calculate the Haflaga number differently, while arriving at the same day. For this reason, I strongly recommend checking the results against your own calculations for the first time or few. - Who made this?
A Shlucha in the USA. I'd rather remain anonymous, but if you're dying of curiosity, you can email me. - Why do we need this? We already have Vestos!
Vestos is a great program. However, it has a few caveats: To use it, you need to have access to your home computer (not always possible). You need to have a Windows PC. If it's a family computer, the privacy of your calendar may be compromised. The Veses Calculator, although not as full-featured, can be accessed from any internet-enabled computer in the world (it may not always look perfect, but it will still work). - Can I tell my friends about this?
Please do! If it can help someone, I'd be very glad. - How did you make this?
I wrote a lot of code by hand, tested it in a browser, threw in some Photoshop work, and found a free webhost to put it up. Curiosity satisfied? ;-)
– Chabad Shita Version Questions
- Why does it say that I don't keep a Veses Hachodesh if it fell out on Lamed (the 30th day) and this month only has 29 days? Shouldn't I keep it on Alef?
Some poskim do indeed hold that way, but I was using Rabbi Y. Farkash's comprehensive Machshevet HaTahara (the newer version is called Tahara K'Halacha) for reference, and this is what it said is the Tzemach Tzedek's opinion. If you usually behave otherwise, please consult your Rav to clarify how you should proceed. - What happens if I forget to do a bedikah on the Onah?
- HELP! I think I've been making mistakes in my calendar for years!
First of all, calm down. Everything that happens is Hashgacha Protis and now you'll have a chance to fix that up. Second, sit down with a calendar expert and see if you were really making a mistake, or just using a different formula to get the same dates. If you really had been making some errors in calculation, then call a Rav to find out about what to do with your old dates.
– Mainstream Shita Version questions:
- What if I don't keep a 24-hour Onah Beinonit?
Nishmat recently alerted me to the fact that some don't, but I haven't yet added this feature. In the meantime, just mark down the half of the Onah Beinonit which your re'iya was in originally (i.e. if you first saw blood at night, keep the nighttime onah of the date marked).
